Programme Definitions
- FEE
- The fee for all activities is noted in the programme.
The fee for a non-member is marked in ( ). This is payable to the leader of the day.
- DISTANCE
- The approximate return distance to the hiking venue is also noted in the programme.
- TRANSPORT COST
- If you choose to leave your car at the meeting place and travel to the venue in somebody else's car, a cost will be incurred. The transport fee is based on four in a vehicle and is divided amongst the number of people in the car. This is payable to the driver of the vehicle.

Programme
The hikes sub committee is enthusiastic about organising as varied a programme as possible,in an effort to suit everyone.
There is no need to book for Sunday hikes - just arrive at the meeting place (Check the full programme) on a Sunday morning. For more details on the meeting venue and a map, go to
Sunday Hikes. Where the program indicates that a booking must be made please contact the

Castle Gorge and
Foothold (Check "
Hiking & Social Activities" > "
Sunday Hikes") are favourites and appear on the programme each month, but be assured it is very unlikely that you will hike the same route month after month as there are endless possibilities and the different leaders have their preferred routes.
At least one week end camp is organized per month as well as quarterly backpacks, ranging from moderate to strenuous.
Hike Ratings
In general there are 5 different categories:
LEVEL 1:
8-10km. |
Hike on hilly and rough terrain but with frequent stops. Suitable for first time hikers although some degree of fitness is required |
LEVEL 2:
9-12km. |
Comfortable pace over rough terrain with fewer stops. Suitable for those who hike less frequently. |
LEVEL 3:
10-14km. |
Quicker pace over more rugged terrain less frequent stops. Suitable for reasonably fit hikers. |
LEVEL 4:
Unlimited kms. |
Brisk pace over difficult terrain, few stops. Suitable for fit and strong hikers. |
ADVENTURE: |
Over various types of terrain. Suitable for hikers that are not afraid of water or heights. |
Hiking Event Types

Nature camp |
Accommodation is from luxury chalets to own tents in basic bush camp. Bird, game and general ecological viewing, walks and drives. Facilities vary from full to nil – generally self-catering. |

Accommodation is from luxury chalets to own tents in established camp sites. Day hikes of various ratings. Facilities vary from full to nil – generally self-catering. |
Nature trail |
Generally a guided event by an authority in a game part with varying accommodation. |
Base hut trail |
Circular marked trails radiate from base accommodation of varying luxury and facilities – usually dormitory type with mattresses. Day packs only – self catering with cars nearby. |
Hutted/cave trail |
Arrival hut with overnight huts/caves of varying luxury and facilities along marked trail. Accommodation usually dormitory with mattresses. Food and equipment carried in backpack. |
Wilderness trails |
Hiking on remote unmarked paths, tracks or off-track – often challenging. Overnight in own tents (shared) or caves. All equipment carried in backpack. |
