Over the weekend 17-19 February, 20 keen hikers made their way to near Memel in the northern Freestate.  Arrivals were between 12h00 and 20h00 but everybody was surprised at the greenness of the countryside and at the first glimpse of the Sediba camp nestled on the hillside next to a stream.  We were fortunate with the weather as during the weekend, the heavens threatened to open, on several occasions.

Sediba is a beautifully situated camp, comprising of three thatched dormitory huts, an ablution block and a fantastic kitchen/sitting area leading on to an open deck with views for ever.  The hiking is relatively easy along well marked paths.  There are two trails which follow the contour of the hills and ensure that the hiker obtains the best views, varied terrain, waterfalls, plenty of dipping opportunities in the river/pools and a variety of overhanging rocks.  Several short wooden ladders over streams or around rocks are encountered.

Sundowners were enjoyed on the deck, prior to everybody doing their own thing for supper.  After a very casual Saturday morning, Peter Burman lead the group away.  It was not long before two parties were formed.  One group raced through the hike and was back at the camp for lunch whilst the others took advantage of the various ‘dipping’ opportunities.   Sunday, Peter lead us west where we savoured the views of Memel and the extensive Seekoeivlei wetland.    Back at camp, the packing up started and everybody made their way home after a really super weekend.
