Magic to the ears ...
Duo 2000

It is always a privilege to attend an occasion where true talent sweeps one away on a magical musical ride.  Just such a privilege befell a group of us recently when we spent time in the formidable Anna Bender’s lounge, bewitched by the winning combination of the sympho-accordian of Sergio Zampoli and the harp of Amarillie Ackermans.  The theme for the evening was Italian Composers and on offer was the overture from La Traviata by Verdi and two beautiful love songs by Gino Mescoli, best known fro Amore Scusami (My love forgive me).

Ackermans excellent sense of humour shines through as she announces each piece and combines perfectly with her talented performance.  Zampoli is a master in his field.  If you close your eyes you can imagine that you are listening to a full symphonic orchestra.  Some of us are bent on becoming regular patrons of these soirees at Anna Bender’s house in Robindale where our senses were charmed by the talented ensemble.  We enjoyed the world-renowned Bender at the piano as she accompanies her guest artists.

On this occasion we were treated to the melodious tenor of Jaco Pieterse who sung Nessum Dorma and a splendid Afrikaans rendition of Jerusalem.

Memorable artists, memorable composers and a venue with a warm ambience all combined to make a memorable evening.

It comes highly recommended.
