Mission statement ...of the Johannesburg Hiking Club is to ensure and organise a continuing programme of hikes and hiking related events, and to foster a sense of responsibility towards the environment within which its hiking activities take place.

Take a hike ...interested?Hiking trails in South Africa and in the Magaliesberg, where you will meet like minded outdoor and conservation orientated people who wear heavy boots and smell like the mountain air. Youthful, midweek and Sunday hikes, backpacks, base camp weekends, slide show/club eve and social events. Hiking in South Africa can be fun - try us!

Bergheim Hike & Braai

It’s a steep ascent but there is excellent hiking on top. Spring is here! Perhaps you can cool down in the pools on top. Afterwards return to a swim and Braai.

A favourite. Lots of game to be seen along the way. Packed lunch afterwards and perhaps a swim.

Castle Gorge Hike

Wind carved stone statues, shady kloofs and cool waterfalls. What more could you ask for?

A zigzag path will leads to superb views of the amphitheatre. Walk along the knife-edge between north and south Magaliesberg.

Youthful-Bergheim Hike

It is a steep ascent but there is excellent hiking on top. Perhaps a dip in the pools. Return to a refreshing swim and Braai.

Groenkloof hike

Near the Fountains in Pretoria. Enjoy this pleasant hike. Several species of game to be seen.

Youthful – Didima Gorge Drakensberg – Wilderness Trail

3 day backpack. Hike into Didima Gorge on Saturday; spend the night in Leopard Cave. Hike to Eland Cave and other rock art sites on Sunday. Spend the night in Poachers Cave and hike out on Monday.

Camping in own tents in the beautiful Drakensberg. Saturday night Potjie Booking with Rob essential.

Foothold Monthly camp or day visit

Facilities open to all. Laze, walk, bird watch, socialise or help with maintenance. Sat evening s/c braai. Own or official hike on Sun.

Foothold Hike & Braai

Ascend via the chain ladder or perhaps up through the Footloose Gully. A magnificent panorama waits once top. Enjoy a braai with friends afterwards.

Wild Coast Meander

Enjoy walking beautiful beaches of the Wild coast. Staying in hotels from Kob Inn to Morgans Bay. All meals included.
