Unsurpassed panoramic vistas of northern Drakensberg ...
Vergezient hiking trail

Vergezient is situated in the Northern Drakensberg and includes three diversified day trails. The views over the Royal Natal National Park and the Amphitheatre are unsurpassed. These hiking trails are well set out and marked and range in difficulty and length.  They wind through forested gullies, open spaces, along streams, passed waterfalls and even to a cave with Bushman paintings, but what really is outstanding are the magnificent views of the whole Northern Drakensberg.

The new beginnings trail is 13.5km and the hiker goes along the cliff edge before descending through a kloof of yellowwood trees and eventually reaching the Folly Ridge Falls.   From here the path moves down to the lowest area of Vergezient and then to the bushman paintings at the New Beginnings Cave.  The trek home is a steady ascent until the hiker reaches the Vergezient Falls and then joins the other routes back to the base hut.

The Wingswept trail is also 13,5km but takes one to the highest point in Vergezient for magnificent panorama.  The trail then takes the keenest of hikers to the Vergezient Falls which is a beautiful 50m waterfall.  One hikes through lots of scenic forests back to the base camp.

The shortest and easiest trail is Razors Edge which is only 8.5km and traverses along a narrow ridge with magnificent vistas and views of the Tugela Valley.

The hikers accommodation is an old Barnhouse with a fireplace in the centre of the room which creates warmth and camaraderie during the winter months.
