The midweek hikers, all 17 of us, set out on Wednesday, 16 August, to hike at Uitkyk. It was a cold start with very cold winds blowing across the Magaliesberg. Most of the group set off at quite a pace, but there were a few of us, very upfit, who brought up the rear at a very sedate pace. We still made it to the top of the mountain and enjoyed, not for long, the beautiful view south with the Hartebeespoort Dam way down below. We were also fortunate to see a pair of black eagles riding the thermals against a beautiful brilliant blue sky. It was too windy and cold to hang around up there for long, so we made our descent, and found a nice protected spot to enjoy our well deserved lunch, before making our way back to our cars. A lovely day, as is the norm.
