Streams, waterfalls and undulating hills ...
Bermanzi hiking trail, Machadodorp

Translated, Bermanzi means ‘the mountain where the water is’.  Bermanzi offers you an outdoor experience beyond compare.

The hiking trails vary between 4km and 12km with breathtaking views of valleys with indigenous forests and rock pools.   The trails are rich in cultural and historical sites, check out the genuine Bushman rock paintings, Pedi and Swazi Kraals as well as Anglo Boer War sites.  Take advantage of and enjoy the crystal clear rock pools which beckon the sweaty hikers to a refreshing dip.  Visit the second highest waterfall in Mpumalanga, the magnificent Bankspruit Waterfall.

.

The Bermanzi Mountain Retreat is nestled on the edge of the escarpment between the Mpumalanga towns of Machododorp, Waterval-Boven and Badplaas situated in the northern part of the Drakensberg. It is only two and a half hours from Gauteng.

Few places offer the awe inspiring setting that Bermanzi has to offer, and together with the thought and care that the owner has put into the facilities, it has created a trail that is sure to be a favourite among hikers and nature lovers for years to come.

The more adventurous can indulge themselves in horse riding or rock climbing. The hiking trails are very popular and if one is lucky one might be able to spot some bushbuck or kudu amongst the indigenous, wild forest.  Trout fishing can be arranged on request.  Bird enthusiasts will not be disappointed.

Chalet
35 hikers can be housed in two well equipped thatched roof chalets with spectacular views.  Braai facilities, coal and gas stove, gas refrigerator, pots and lanterns. Indoor showers and bathrooms and flush toilets are provided.

The chalets cater for hikers but are also suitable for other holiday makers.

Translated, the Vakashani Hut means “Kuier Lekker” or “Have a Good Time”, while the Phumulani Hut means “Rus Lekker” or “Have a Good Rest”.
