YOUTHFUL Bartlett’s Farm

A relatively easy walk to the kloofs with running water. Hike to the edge of the mountain for a superb view. To finish a fine days hike there is a braai.

Castle Gorge

Once you’ve made it to the saddle head off and explore. The rock formations will amaze you if you just use your imagination – chess pieces, dogs, seals. Relax by the pools for lunch, then head back to the car park.

Easy walking along the ridge, then enjoy a light lunch afterwards in the shade of the trees.

3 day backpack in beautiful surrounds. Situated near Ficksburg, enjoy sandstone rock formations, streams and indigenous forests.

YOUTHFUL: Vergezient Berg Trails, 2 day basecamp

In Bergville area, stay in barn located on the edge of the escarpment with magnificent views of the high points of the Drakensberg. Hike through kloofs, tranquil streams, indigenous forests and grasslands. Two high  waterfalls

An enjoyable walk in the Magaliesburg with a braai and swim.

Tswaing Crater

Tswaing means “place of salt”. A meteorite crater with a salt lake.

Facilities open to all. Laze, walk, bird watch, socialise or help with maintenance. Sat eve s/c braai. Own or official Sunday hike.

One of JHC’s most popular hiking venues, and with good reason. Four diversified routes take you to the escarpment from where there are a myriad of hiking trails.  After a good day of hiking, enjoy a braai with friends.
